The DC 40 Hour Unarmed Special Police Officer course is designed to provide pre-assignment training to unarmed special police officers. The class is forty (40) hours of classroom instruction and the curriculum will consist of laws of arrest, search and seizure, use of force, Authority, Jurisdiction, first aid, and other related topics.

The MD 16 Hour Handgun permit course is designed for armed security personnel (security guards, private detectives, and armored car guards/drivers) to meet the requirements by Maryland State Police to carry a firearm in Maryland in connection with their employment. The class is fourteen (14) hours of classroom instruction and two (2) hours of range practice and qualification for an initial application. There are six (6) hours of classroom instruction and two (2) hours of range practice and qualification for a renewal application. Curriculum will consist of state firearm law, home firearm safety, handgun mechanisms and operation.

This certification is a hands-on course which trains participants in operational use of the Monadnock tactical baton. This course also covers any straight baton to include the ASP baton. The program is simple to learn and easy to understand. The techniques were designed to work effectively for all officers. The program provides carrying and drawing procedures, as well as striking techniques. These tactics are quickly learned, easily practiced and readily maintained long after the program is completed.

Handcuffs are among the most often used tool by officers, yet training is severely lacking. Handcuff studies show that over 67% of resistance by subjects occurs after the first handcuff has been applied. All too often the result is injury and/or death to either the officer or the subject. This program teaches officers how to safely and successfully apply handcuffs on compliant and non-compliant subjects.
The Oleoresin Capiscum (OC) Spray Certification provides officers with information on the physiological effects, the use and the after use of OC. The course will present principals, skills and techniques of understanding and using OC control violent and aggressive behavior; reduce personal injury to officers, subjects, and the general public; increase an officer’s confidence in physically threatening situations; and reduce the exposure of civil liability of the officer and the employer for unnecessary or improper force used to control violent and aggressive subjects.

Bush signed H.R. 218, The Law Enforcement Officer’s Safety Act of 2004, which exempts qualified active and retired law enforcement officers from state laws that prohibit the carrying of concealed firearms. The Metropolitan Police Department Security Officers Management Branch has implemented a re-qualification course for retired Metropolitan Police and Law Enforcement Officers. This is a mandatory course that must be taken in compliance with H.R. 218.

This is a refresher course required every three years to maintain eligibility as a Protective Security Officer working on a government contract. Officers will receive refresher training and updated information based on the Security Manual and Resource Tool (SMART Book). This course only covers the SMART book portion of training. This course is a weapons requirement for Protective Service Officers working on government contracts. Students will learn firearms maintenance, safety and handling, and become familiar with weapons they are to be assigned on contract and the A-9 ICE Qualification Course.
This course is an eight (8) hour weapons refresher course required for Protective Service Officers working on government contracts that fail their semi-annual qualification. This course is a mandatory requirement prior to attempting to re-qualify on the A-9 ICE Qualification Course. Students will continue to demonstrate firearms safety, basic marksmanship and the step-by-step techniques for shooting the A-9 ICE Qualification Course.
